Star Kiwi 3YO Back from Spell

Wednesday, 31st May 2017

Gr1-winning 3YO Ugo Foscolo is scheduled to return to the Tulloch Lodge stable of trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott this week having thrived during his break, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He's enjoyed a slow build-up with four weeks at Bell View Park Stud and he'll be back in the stables this week," said Jonathan Scully, racing manager for part-owner Kevin Hickman. Ugo Foscolo won five of his six starts for Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh, including the Gr1 New Zealand 2,000 Guineas, before being transferred to Sydney. Unplaced on his Australian debut in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes on a rain-affected track, the son of Zacinto was then spelled after he pulled up with back and hind quarter muscle issues. Scully said connections had yet to discuss future targets for the rising 4YO. "I was over there last week and saw him and he just looks fantastic. He's matured and strengthened and he's full of beans," he said. "Obviously we will be looking at the Melbourne spring with him and we'll wait and see whether he has a run or two in Sydney first."
