Coolmore Secure Breeding Rights to Champion Colt

Thursday, 25th May 2017

Coolmore has announced that it has secured the breeding rights to last year’s champion 2YO male Classic Empire who will stand at Ashford Stud when he retires from racing, reports racing post. Classic Empire, who was a narrow second in last weekend’s Gr1 Preakness Stakes, is by Pioneerof The Nile, the same sire as current Asford resident and Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. "Negotiations had started in the later part of 2016. Obviously he was a very sought-after horse, but Coolmore's development of its stallions is considered one of the best in the world,” said Justin Casse, brother of Classic Empire’s trainer Mark Casse. “It is not always about the money, it is about the development of the horse and the prestige and track record of the farm."
