At Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Darley's 2006 Champion 2YO Colt & 2007 Gr1 Kentucky Derby-winning shuttler Street Sense (Street Cry-Bedazzle, by Dixieland Band) celebrated an elite race success when 6YO gelding Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense-Saywaan, by Zabeel) stormed home from back in the field to claim his maiden top-flight win in the $650,000 Gr1 Doomben Cup (2000m) for 3YO+, defeating Star Exhibit & Rudy. Sense of Occasion, who was purchased by Beamish Bloodstock for $80,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, improved his record to 8 wins (including the Gr2 Villiers Stakes, Listed Premier's Cup & Listed McKell Cup) and 9 placings (including the Gr1 ATC Doncaster Handicap, Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Listed ATC Lord Mayor's Cup) from 34 starts for $1,691,020 earnings. "This horse deserved to win today as he should have won the Hollindale Cup," jockey Corey Brown said. "I knew from the 600 metres when he was travelling so well that he just had to find his sprint to win." Trainer Kris Lees said Sense of Occasion's winter campaign was now over. "It's been a great ride but that might do him for now and I'll put him away for the spring," he said.
