Malaguerra to Appreciate Return to Dry Track
Meanwhile, the connections of top sprinter Malaguerra are expecting a big run from the 5YO in Saturday’s $1 million Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville. The dual Gr1 winner, who hasn’t raced since struggling on a wet track when 7th (beaten 5.7 lengths) behind Chautauqua in the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on 1 April, prepared for his latest assignment with a 1000m trial at Cranbourne on 8 May. “He’s very well, we have freshened him up and he trialled up really well for the race and we are very happy with him,” Manny Gelagotis told ANZ Bloodstock News. “He just didn’t handle the heavy conditions at Randwick, it was very heavy that day. He’s much more effective obviously on better ground which he should find on Saturday.” Gelagotis added: “He’s one of the top two in the race, and they are the two clear cut horses on the ratings, so we expect a very big run from him.” Malaguerra, who has drawn barrier nine, is currently on the fourth line of betting with TAB at $8.
