At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Sun Stud's (formerly Eliza Park International) Gr3 winning stallion Statue Of Liberty (Storm Cat-Charming Lassie, by Seattle Slew) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Star Exhibit (Statue of Liberty-Star Encounter, by Jeune) made a winning debut for new trainer Darren Weir in the $120,000 Listed Thoroughbred Club 50th Stakes (1440m) for 3YO+, defeating Charmed Harmony & Top Me Up. Formerly raced in Perth by prominent WA owner and breeder Bob Peters, Star Exhibit improved his record to 9 wins (including the Gr2 WATC Perth Cup) and 5 placings (including the Listed WATC JRA Trophy) from 18 starts for $677,275. Stable representative Jarrod McLean said Star Exhibit would embark on a winter carnival campaign in Brisbane. "He's going to Queensland but we're just not sure whether he'll follow a similar path to Real Love last year and target Group Two races heading towards the Brisbane Cup (2400m) or whether he might measure up over 2000m in the Group One Doomben Cup," he told racing.com.
