Auckland Cup Target For Hasselhoof
Highly regarded Kiwi galloper Hasselhoof (Tavistock-Alpine, by Zabeel) is being aimed at the Auckland Cup following his return to form in last Saturday's Gr1 Livamol Classic at Hastings, reports theinformant.co.nz. The 5YO gelding finished a close-up third behind Willie Cazals in the 2040 metre weight-for-age feature in a performance that delighted his connections. "It was a great performance and very satisfying to see him back somewhere near his best," co-trainer Chris Gibbs said. "He hadn't raced for some time...we were very happy with how he hit the line. It was the best part of his race and he was taking ground off the first two. From the point of view of a Cups campaign, that was exactly what we wanted to see." Gibbs added: "He's a slow-maturing horse who's still got a long way to go. He's got a lot of upside. Hopefully now we'll aim him towards the Auckland Cup. We haven't decided yet how we'll get there, but that's the plan at this stage." The NZ$500,000 Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) will be run at Ellerslie on 11 March 2017.
