Hartnell Wins Gr1 Turnbull Stakes

Tuesday, 4th October 2016

At Flemington in Melbourne, triple Gr1-winning former English Derby victor & Darley shuttler Authorized (Montjeu-Funsie, by Saumarez) celebrated an elite success when 6YO UK-bred gelding Hartnell (Authorized-Debonnaire, by Anabaa) scored an easy 3.25 length win for trainer John O'Shea in the $500,000 Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 4YO mare Jameka (Myboycharlie-Mine Game, by General Nediym) & 4YO entire Tally (Street Cry-Itemise, by Kris S). The Godolphin-owned Hartnell improved his record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 The BMW, Gr2 Hill Stakes, Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes, Gr3 Sky High Stakes & Gr3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket) and 6 placings (including the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes & Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud) from 26 starts for $2,237,110 earnings. Hartnell is expected to have his next run in either the Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on 15 October or the Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) a week later.  "He'll be competitive in anything he runs in," trainer John O'Shea told Godolphin.com. "We have a few options which will be discussed among the team over the next few days."
