Smullen Bullish About Harzand Classic Double
Pat Smullen expects Epsom hero Harzand (Sea the Stars-Hazariya, by Xaar) to make a bold bid for a Derby double at the Curragh on Saturday as long as the ground is safe, reports Sky Sports. Bred and owned by His Highness the Aga Khan, Harzand claimed his first classic victory when landing the English Derby at Epsom on 4 June and Smullen is confident the son of Sea The Stars can add the Irish equivalent to his record on the weekend. "If the ground is safe, I'm sure he'll take his chance. The easy side of good should be OK, but that decision will be for the boss," Smullen said. "We are very happy with him." Harzand's Epsom Derby success represented a special milestone for his trainer Dermot Weld who, remarkably, collected his first win in Britain's most famous race. The 3YOs record stands at 3 wins (including the Gr3 Ballysax Stakes) from 4 starts for £910,013 earnings.
