Mackintosh Wins Gr3 Grand Prix Stakes

Monday, 30th May 2016

At Doomben in Brisbane, Waikato Stud's Gr1 Australian Guineas-winning stallion Pins (Snippets-No Finer, by Kaoru Star) added a Group success when progressive 3YO New Zealand-bred gelding Mackintosh (Pins-Lolly Scramble, by Generous) scored a front-running 0.2-length win for trainer Chris Waller in the $150,000 Gr3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO gelding Eagle Way (More Than Ready-Wedgetail Eagle, by Lure) & 3YO colt Howard Be Thy Name (Redoute's Choice-Bellini Rose, by Faltaat). Purchased for NZ$11,000 as a weanling at the 2013 NZB National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale from the draft of Waikato Stud, Mackintosh improved his record to 4 wins from 6 starts for $155,174 earnings. Waller confirmed that Mackintosh would take his place in the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on 11 June. "He didn't win by a big margin today but I think he will keep giving over 2400 metres [of the Derby]," he said.
