Sacred Star To Resume In BTC Cup

Friday, 13th May 2016

Meanwhile, buoyed by Sacred Elixir's debut Australian victory at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, Tony Pike is looking forward to his star sprinter-miler Sacred Star (Flying Spur-Irish Nova, by O'Reilly) continuing the stable's roll at Doomben tomorrow, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 6YO dual Gr1 winner will make his first appearance since winning the Gr3 Darley Plate at Ellerslie in March when he steps out in the Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m. "Sacred Star's done really well, but it's a hot race and we'll have to wait and see how he goes against these top sprinters," Pike said. "It's a very strong field and if he can run in the money we would be very happy and continue on the Group One path or we can always drop him back." The $1.5 million Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap - in which Sacred Star finished an unlucky sixth last year - on 11 June is the loftier goal, while the Gr2 QTC Cup, also at Eagle Farm, a week earlier and the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on 2 July are other options.
