Malaguerra Confirmed For Gr1 Test
Progressive sprinter Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) will finally get another shot at Gr1 success in Saturday's All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick, reports AAP. The 4YO has come a long way since his last Gr1 foray as a 2YO in the 2104 Blue Diamond Stakes having built an impressive record of 9 wins from 16 starts for over $400,000 prize money. Trainer Lee Freedman believes the timing is right to test the gelding at the elite level following successive stakes victories in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) in Melbourne and the Gr3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) in Sydney. "It's probably an opportunity," Freedman told Sky Sports Radio. "I think the horse is probably looking for 1400 metres and while it's a decent rise in class and it's weight for age, I think he's in good from and should be tried in that race. He's working very well." Freedman said Malaguerra will be on trial for a trip north to Queensland for the winter carnival. "Depending on how he comes through Saturday that's always been the plan, so we'll reassess that after Saturday," Freedman said.
