Jeweler Wins Gr1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas)
At Hanshin racecourse in Japan, 3YO filly Jeweler (Victoire Pisa-Baldwina, by Pistolet Bleu) claimed the first leg of Japan's Triple Crown for fillies when she scored by a nose for trainer Kenichi Fujioka in the Gr1 Oka Sho (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Sinhalite (Deep Impact-Singhalese, by Singspiel) & At The Seaside (King Kamehameha-Luminous Harbor, by Agnes Tachyon). Jeweler, who becomes the first classic winner for her Dubai World Cup winning sire Victoire Pisa, took her record to 2 wins and 2 placings (including the Gr3 Tulip Sho) from 4 starts. The final two legs of the Triple Crown are the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) over 2400m on 22 May, and the Shuka Sho over 2000m on 10 September. The last horse to claim the Triple Crown was champion Gentildonna in 2012.
