Japonisme The Lock On Tough Day At Headquarters

Friday, 8th April 2016

Tomorrow's second day of Sydney's The Championships at Royal Randwick features four Gr1 races, however the elite quartet of events appear to be anything but cut and dried on a highly competitive card. For quadrella players, Japonisme appeals as a potential banker in the early quaddie when he takes on fellow 3YOs in Race 5, the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint. After winning the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (see below) last November at Flemington, the ultra-consistent son of Choisir has barely put a hoof wrong, earning placings in both the Gr1 Lightning Stakes & Gr1 William Reid Stakes either side of a close up fifth in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap. At level weights against his contemporaries, anywhere near his best looks good enough to make him a lock even with the likes of exciting prospects Hellbent and Petits Filous in the field.
