Inglis Easter Day-3: $1.75 Million Redoute's Choice Colt

Friday, 8th April 2016

Having been under-bidder on yesterday's $1.6 million Frankel colt (see below item) Angus Gold, acting on behalf of Shadwell Stud, outbid influential agent James Harron to secure the Redoute's Choice colt out of Champion South African mare National Colour for $1.75 million, ensuring Arrowfield Stud's former Champion Sire would top the Easter Session 1 Domestic Sires table by average (three or more sold). Remarkably for Shadwell, who are the leading Easter buyer by aggregate for the past four years, Lot 433, consigned by Arrowfield Stud, is the third consecutive yearling out of National Colour bought by Sheikh Hamdan. Gold said that both of the previous buys (in training with South African trainer Mike de Kock) are reported to have above average ability. Gold is on a quest to find a stallion prospect for Sheikh Hamdan in Australia, having missed out on subsequent top gallopers Wandjina and Deep Field, both now at stud.
