Winter Campaign For Volkstok'n'barrell
Top Kiwi galloper Volkstok'n'barrell (Tavistock-Volkster, by Volksraad) is likely to press on towards the Brisbane winter carnival despite a below par performance in last weekend's Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick, reports theinformant.co.nz. The 4YO, who has recorded Gr1 wins in the WFA Classic and the New Zealand Stakes this campaign, finished tenth (beaten 9.4 lengths) behind Winx in the $3 million mile feature, but jockey Corey Brown believed he had a genuine excuse. "He didn't handle the holding ground," co-trainer Donna Logan said. "Corey told us that he felt like he was on roller blades. He was going up and down on the spot and he was just hopeless in it. But the good thing is that he's come through the race really well, he's flown through it." Logan added: "He's back home in New Zealand now and we'll probably look at taking him to Brisbane. We'll have a look at what races might be suitable for him during the winter carnival."
