El Divino To Handle Class Rise: Waterhouse
Gai Waterhouse is confident that boom colt El Divino will make his presence felt in Saturday's Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick. El Divino, a 2YO half-brother to superstar mare Winx, looked a potential top-liner himself when scoring a brilliant 4.8-length win on debut over 1000m at Gosford on 17 March. Despite the steep class rise from a provincial maiden to Group company, Waterhouse feels the blueblood is up to the task. "He's a very sharp colt," Waterhouse told Racing and Sports yesterday. "He's big, strong, and impeccably bred being Winx's half-brother." She added: "I think he will be very hard to beat in this race. He's got a real presence about him." Bred by the Camilleri family's Fairway Thoroughbreds, El Divino is by Snitzel out of the Al Akbar mare Vegas Showgirl making him a half sibling to Cox Plate heroine and 5-time Gr1 winner Winx (Street Cry). Widely regarded as the best racehorse in Australia, Winx will bid to boost her Gr1 tally to six when she starts favourite in Saturday's Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick.
