Spell Preferred For Capitalist

Tuesday, 22nd March 2016

Co-trainer Peter Snowden has restated his opposition to Golden Slipper winner Capitalist (Written Tycoon-Kitalpha, by Fusaichi Pegasus) contesting the final two legs of Sydney's juvenile triple crown, namely the Gr1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Gr1 Champagne Stakes. Snowden believes the star colt has nothing left to prove in his juvenile season and says he deserves a break. "I need to talk to the team today but we will make a decision in the next couple of days," Snowden told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "He's done a great job the horse. He doesn't have to prove himself anymore and he's had five runs which I'm mindful of. If it was my choice I'd be saying give him a break, but it will be a team decision." Snowden said he was looking forward to seeing Capitalist return as a 3YO, but added races such as the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas over a mile in the spring would not be on his agenda. "I think he's a sprinter," Snowden said. "He has a dynamic turn of foot and he also has good race sense...so if the time came to push him a bit further he may get 1400 metres, but I don't think a mile would be his cup of tea." Capitalist, who hails from the family of fellow Golden Slipper winner Merlene, races in the green and gold colours of James Harron Bloodstock which purchased him for $165,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Daandine Stud.
