Hayes Confident With Ranvet Pair

Thursday, 17th March 2016

Meanwhile, David Hayes is expecting an improved second-up performance from top-class galloper Criterion in Saturday's Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill, reports AAP. The 4-time Gr1 winner was well beaten when resuming with a 7th place finish behind First Seal in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes on 5 March. That race was over an unsuitable 1300 metres, and Hayes has no doubt the 5YO will appreciate the step up to a mile-and-a-quarter on Saturday. "His work suggests that," Hayes said. "He looks well and I think he'll run much better." Hayes, who trains in partnership with his nephew Tom Dabernig, also has Dibayani lining up in the Gr1 feature and was on hand to watch both his charges work yesterday morning. "I liked what I saw and they are in really good shape," he said. Last month it was announced that Criterion (Sebring-Mica's Pride, by Bite The Bullet) will retire to Newgate Farm at the conclusion of his racing career.
