Dunn Thrilled With Chautauqua Gate
Meanwhile, jockey Dwayne Dunn says the barrier draw for Saturday's Gr1 Newmarket Handicap has played right into Chautauqua's hands. The star sprinter, who is the dominant $2.40 favourite for the $1.25 million sprint, has drawn barrier 11 in the field of 11. The Team Hawkes-trained 5YO will be shooting for consecutive Gr1 victories after scoring a stunning win in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) last start in which he reeled off an incredible final 200m sectional to win the race. "It's superb," Dunn told Racing.com. "We have to see how the track plays but it gives me an opportunity now to just put him in open air and hopefully we see that awesome sprint that we saw the other day." He added: "He had a jump-out last Friday and we are really impressed with the way he is going." Chautauqua will carry top weight of 58kg on Saturday, but Dunn does not view the impost as harmful to his prospects. "At the weights you would say that he can't [win], but good horses defy that and he is a lot fitter, 1200 metres suits him better and there are a lot more plusses than minuses," he said.
