Vavasour Retired

Tuesday, 8th March 2016

Meanwhile, the ligament injury that ruled Vavasour (Redoute's Choice-Valpolicella, by Red Ransom) out of Saturday's Gr1 Auckland Cup has now ended her career, reports NZ Racing Desk. "It's pretty devastating, we had dreams of running in the cup and then on to Sydney," part-owner Sarah Green said. "She injured herself in the Herbie Dyke [Gr1]. We did everything that we could, but retirement is the best option for her. She's done us proud and now we have to do the right thing by her." Trained by Peter and Dawn Williams and Paul Richards, Vavasour won five of her 17 starts including the Gr2 Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic, the Gr3 Counties Cup and the Gr3 Waikato Cup. A daughter of multiple champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, Vavasour  is a three-quarter sister to Gr2 Autumn Classic winner Vilanova from the Gr3-winning Red Ransom mare Valpolicella.
