Palentino Wins Gr1 Australian Guineas

Monday, 7th March 2016

At Flemington in Melbourne, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Palentino (Teofilo-Palatine Hill, by Palace Music) scored by a short head for trainer Darren Weir in the $750,000 Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow colt Tarzino (Tavistock-Zarzino, by Zabeel) & the filly Risque (Darci Brahma-So Explicit, by Straight Strike). Palentino, who was purchased by Darren Weir for $85,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale from the draft of Macleay Thoroughbred Stud, took his record to 3 wins (also including the Listed Hilton Resorts & Hotels Stakes) and 2 placings (including last start's Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes which he controversially lost on protest) from 6 starts for $606,710 earnings.
