Waller Calls Time On Catkins & Boban Careers

Wednesday, 2nd March 2016

Two of trainer Chris Waller's highest profile gallopers have had time called on their respective race careers. Popular mare Catkins (Dubawi-Salix Caprea, by Catbird) was given a searching trial on Monday morning to see if her disappointing run in the Gr2 Millie Fox Stakes 10 days ago was an aberration, however the 5-times Gr1-placed mare showed little of what pundits know she is capable of despite finishing runner-up, and she is now headed to the breeding barn. Meanwhile, Waller also announced the retirement yesterday of his 5-time Gr1 winner Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare). The striking 6YO gelding, whose career earnings approached close to $3 million, finished 10th of 11 runners in last weekend's Gr1 Futurity Stakes and hadn't won since last September's Gr1 Memsie Stakes.
