Chautauqua Draws Well For Darley Classic

Thursday, 5th November 2015

Australia's best sprinter Chautauqua has drawn barrier four for Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington. A field of ten has been assembled for the weight-for-age feature in which Chautauqua will bid for successive Gr1 sprint prizes after scoring a stunning victory in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on 23 October. Dwayne Dunn will be reunited with Chautauqua on Saturday replacing Tommy Berry who partnered the 5YO in the Manikato when Dunn was suspended. Among Chautauqua's chief rivals will be reigning Darley Classic winner Terravista who has drawn barrier one, Queensland ace Buffering who has come up with barrier seven, Manikato runner-up Srikandi who will jump from gate two, and the intriguing Boban who has barrier eight. Boban, best known as one of Australia's top milers with three Gr1 wins at the distance, has never won over six furlongs despite several attempts at the trip. The final field for the Gr1 Darley Classic is:

1. BUFFERING (Robert Heathcote-Damian Browne) 58.5kg (7)

2. CHAUTAUQUA (Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-Dwayne Dunn) 58.5kg (4)

3. BOBAN (Chris Waller) 58.5kg (8)

4. TERRAVISTA (Joseph Pride-Hugh Bowman) 58.5kg (1)

5. TIGER TEES (Joseph Pride) 58.5kg (5)

6. FLAMBERGE (Peter Moody-Vlad Duric) 58.5kg (6)

7. DELECTATION (Chris Waller) 58.5kg (9)

8. SRIKANDI (Ciaron Maher-Kerrin McEvoy) 56.5kg (2)

9. BRING ME THE MAID (Peter Moody-Glen Boss) 56.5kg (3)

10. LUMOSTY (Robert Smerdon) 56.5kg (10)
