Vancouver Out Of Spring

Wednesday, 9th September 2015

Trainer Gai Waterhouse informed Racing NSW Stewards yesterday that top colt Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro-Skates, by Danehill) will be spelled and won't be seen again this spring. The Golden Slipper winner, who was sold to Coolmore and the China Horse Club for a reported $40 million in the autumn, was expected to be one of the stars of the spring carnival with big race entries such as the Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate. However, his campaign got off to an inauspicious start when he suffered the first defeat of his five start career when fourth behind Japonisme in the Gr3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on 15 August. The son of Medaglia d'Oro then relinquished his place at the top of betting for Saturday's Gr1 Golden Rose with a lacklustre barrier trial performance at Rosehill last Tuesday.
