Tremezzina Shines On Debut

Thursday, 16th July 2015

Trainer Chris Waller is predicting a bright future for juvenile filly Tremezzina who posted a stylish debut victory at Warwick Farm yesterday. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt backed up her impressive trial form to score an eye-catching 1.5-length win over fellow 2YO fillies Self Esteem and Way Too Good in the Tab.com.au Plate over 1300m. Waller described Tremezzina pre-race as a "special filly", but, as is typical with Sydney's champion trainer, will not be rushing her into stakes company just yet. "It doesn't matter how good their trial form is they have to back it up on race day under pressure, and she did that," Waller told Sky Racing. "This is a confidence time of year for most horses. We would have to find the right race for her instead of throwing her in the deep end." Winning jockey Tye Angland agreed that Tremezzina possessed well above average ability. "Throughout her trials she really impressed me," he said. "First-up over 1300 metres on a wet track was the main concern for everyone, but she was able to overcome that so that shows you just how smart she is." He added: "She was impressive. I didn't really ask her for much but once she got to the front she switched off and floated a bit...she's still got a lot to learn but at the moment she is doing a lot of things right for such a young horse." Tremezzina, who is a half-sister to Perth stakes winner Testamezzo (Testa Rossa), was purchased by Star Thoroughbreds for $190,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Amarina Farm.
