Vain Queen Retired

Thursday, 28th May 2015

Gr3-winning mare Vain Queen (Artie Schiller-Our Teneriffe, by Kenvain) has been retired to stud, reports racing.com. Trainer John Sadler said the decision was made to retire the 5YO daughter of Artie Schiller after she finished unplaced in the Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide earlier this month. "She pulled up very lame after the Goodwood and unfortunately she also bled so the owners made the decision to retire her in the horse's best interests and I agreed with them," Sadler said. Vain Queen's biggest win was in the Gr3 GH Mumm Stakes (1100m) at Flemington in the spring but she was also an unlucky second in this year's Gr1 William Reid Stakes. "When she finished second in the William Reid (1200m) she was three-deep the whole way and she should have finished a lot closer in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m)," said Sadler. Vain Queen retires with 7 wins from 16 starts for $551,660 prize money.
