Dettori In Line For Criterion Ride

Thursday, 28th May 2015

Champion jockey Frankie Dettori will ride Criterion in a track gallop at Newmarket on Thursday as he prepares for the Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on 17 June, reports AAP. Trainer David Hayes said that Dettori could ride the triple Gr1 winner at the Royal meeting provided John Gosden has no runners in the race. Speaking on Sky's Racing HQ, Hayes said that Criterion was well ahead of his British debut.

"He's really good. Frankie Dettori rides him at Newmarket on Thursday for his first easy gallop on one of the main grass tracks there."

"I'm flying over on the weekend to supervise. We're going to take him to Royal Ascot and give him a look about two weeks before his race, so when he gets there it won't be a big shock to his system."

"Chad Schofield, who knows the horse, has been riding him in track work and has been giving me some glowing reports, so we are all very happy with him."

"Frankie is stable jockey for John Gosden whose stable is one of the most powerful in Europe at the moment. Frankie wants to ride the horse if the stable doesn't have a runner. At the moment he thinks he's a chance of not having a ride, so we might be able to get him."
