Makybe Diva Son Disappoints On Debut
Meanwhile, beautifully bred 3YO Taqneen, a son of champion Australian racehorses Lonhro and Makybe Diva, made his debut at Pakenham racecourse yesterday, though it was not the auspicious start to his career that connections would have hoped for. Trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig and carrying the blue and white Shadwell colours of owner Sheikh Hamdan, the blue blooded gelding looked some chance in the 1380m maiden when looming up behind the leaders approaching the turn, but he surrendered meekly in the straight to finish a disappointing eighth (beaten 6.4-lengths). Taqneen, who was purchased for $300,000 by Shadwell Australia at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Tyreel Stud, is the third foal to race from three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva. Makybe Diva also has a 2YO colt by High Chaparral called Surrey and an unnamed filly by All Too Hard who was born in August last year.
