Hayes Calls For Changes To Quarantine Opening Dates

Wednesday, 27th May 2015

High profile trainer David Hayes, who trains in partnership with his nephew Tom Dabernig, will soon approach authorities at Racing Victoria regarding opening dates for the quarantine station at Werribee, south-west of Melbourne. According to theage.com.au, "Hayes believes that if the opening date, which is usually the first week in October, can be moved back a month it could enhance the chances of international horses competing in early spring." If implemented, the earlier opening dates would provide international competitors additional opportunities to qualify for the major spring carnival events. Hayes commented, "Spots in those races are becoming incredibly difficult to get, so having other good races to run in, increases your chances of getting a healthy return on your investment [in an international horse]."
