Busuttin Bullish About El Roca

Wednesday, 27th May 2015

Trainer Trent Busuttin is confident that talented but injury prone galloper El Roca (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) can return to the winner's circle in Saturday's Gr2 QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben. The Fastnet Rock entire was unplaced when resuming on 9 May in the Gr1 BTC Cup, in which he drew wide and was forced to cover extra ground before weakening to finish 11th behind Hot Snitzel. That was the 4YOs first appearance in 13 months after being sidelined with an injured suspensory ligament. Busuttin is not sure what caused El Roca's poor first-up display, but says the horse's work since has been first-rate. "He worked up superb this morning. Can't fault his work, can't fault his condition so hopefully his last run was a one-off thing and we can get back on track on Saturday," Busuttin told RSNs Shane Anderson yesterday. "To be honest I can't pinpoint anything. You could say he had thirteen months off and he did race three deep without cover on a very hot speed...but all that considered he stopped very quickly. Hopefully he can come out and turn it around on Saturday. We're very confident that he will acquit himself well." Busuttin says he still hopes to run El Roca in the $2 million Stradbroke (1350m) on Saturday week, before looking ahead to the Melbourne Spring Carnival. "First-up after a long time and a tough run, it just made sense to drop back in grade and try and get some confidence back in the horse," he said. "We're just taking it one run at a time, but if he can acquit himself well on Saturday then we will head to the Stradbroke. He may then have a short break after the Stradbroke and carry on to Melbourne for the spring."
