Pike Happy With Sacred Star Weight

Tuesday, 26th May 2015

Meanwhile, trainer Tony Pike's confidence about the prospects of Sacred Star in Saturday week's $2 million Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap received a boost after the release of weights yesterday. Pike said he was happy with Sacred Star's fifth place finish in Saturday's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 despite racing without much luck, and is optimistic leading into Queensland's premier event. "Things didn't go his way when he was pole-axed at the 1000 and ended up back midfield," Pike told theinformant.co.nz. "He got himself back into a challenging position on the turn and to be fair he probably peaked on his run." He added: "He had a decent blow afterwards and given the interrupted preparation we were still happy with the run. He'll definitely strip fitter for the Stradbroke." Pike was also pleased with Sacred Star's allotted weight of 55kg in the big race. "Our bloke drops four kilos, so that's a nice position to be in," he said. "All we want is a trouble-free lead in plus some decent weather, and he can be right in it."
