Ghibellines Retired To Stud

Tuesday, 26th May 2015

Well-related colt Ghibellines (Shamardal-Camarilla, by Elusive Quality) has been retired to stand at White Robe Lodge in New Zealand. Trained by John O'Shea for Godolphin, Ghibellines won the Gr2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens last year in a career spanning just eight starts. The rising 4YO is a lightly-raced son of the international Group One winner and producer Shamardal, sire of the Hong Kong champion Able Friend, in a deal brokered by the respected Auckland bloodstock agent Michael Otto. "We've been looking for a horse like this for a long time," studmaster Wayne Stewart said. "He was secured for us by Michael, who also got Yamanin Vital for the stud many years ago. Ghibellines is a magnificent looking type out of one of Australia's best families and he's got the race record as well." Ghibellines, who is out of Gr1 winner Camarilla, is a half-brother to champion filly Guelph and hails from the brilliant black-type producing Jesmond Lass family of Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad, his dual Gr1-winning sister Canny Lass, and Queensland Derby winner Camarena. Ghibellines will stand at an introductory fee of NZ$5,000 + GST.
