Bohemian Lily Wins Gr2 The Roses

Monday, 25th May 2015

At Doomben in Brisbane, Waikato Stud's deceased Champion stallion O'Reilly (Last Tycoon-Courtza, by Pompeii Court) added a Group success when 3YO New Zealand-bred filly Bohemian Lily (O'Reilly-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) romped to a 4-length win for trainer Gai Waterhouse in the $175,000 Gr2 The Roses (2020m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow 3YO fillies Col 'N' Lil (Bradbury's Luck-Jyler, by Street Cry) & Whatalovelyday (Domesday-Krysia, by Elvstroem). The well-bred Bohemian Lily took her record to 3 wins (including the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet) & 3 placings (including the Listed BRC Princess Stakes) from 10 starts for 235,746 earnings. This was an impressive front-running display by Bohemian Lily who showed she will be hard to beat in Saturday's Gr1 Queensland Oaks. "The penny's really dropped with her since she's been in Queensland," trainer Gai Waterhouse said. "It'll take a very good horse to beat her next week." Racing in the same colours as star Kiwi mare Silent Achiever, the Kevin Hickman-owned Bohemian Lily is a full-sister to Australian Guineas & Australian Derby winner Shamrocker (O'Reilly), and a half-sister to stakes winner and Gr1 placegetter Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn).
