Boban Wins Gr1 Doomben 10,000

Monday, 25th May 2015

At Doomben in Brisbane, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler & US Eclipse Award-winning stallion Bernardini (A.P. Indy-Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American) celebrated a Gr1 success when 5YO gelding Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $750,000 Gr1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding Charlie Boy (Myboycharlie-Maritime, by Falbrav) & fellow 5YO gelding Generalife (Lonhro-Albaicin, by Redoute's Choice). Boban, who was purchased by BBA Ireland for $100,000 at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Millbrook Stud, took his record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes, Gr1 Emirates Stakes, Gr1 Epsom Handicap, Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap & Gr3 Moonga Stakes) & 2 placings (including the Gr3 BTC Classic & Listed Hawkesbury Guineas) from 31 starts for $2,148,663 earnings. Waller was undecided as to whether Boban would head towards the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap on 6 June. "It is a pity the weights don't come out for another week. He is going to get top weight and I don't know if the handicap conditions will suit him," he said.
