Al Kazeem Wins Gr1 Tattersalls Gold Cup

Monday, 25th May 2015

At the Curragh in Ireland, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated a Gr1 success when 7YO entire Al Kazeem (Dubawi-Kazeem, by Darshaan) scored by a neck for trainer Roger Charlton in the Gr1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5 furlongs), over 4YO entires Fascinating Rock (Fastnet Rock-Miss Polaris, by Polar Falcon) & Postponed (Dubawi-Ever Rigg, by Dubai Destination). This was the second Tattersalls Gold Cup victory for Al Kazeem, his first Gr1 success since returning to Charlton's yard early last year after proving sub-fertile at stud. The remarkable galloper will now head to Royal Ascot for either the Hardwicke Stakes or Prince of Wales's Stakes next month. "He's amazing, looks amazing, is brave and all you need in a good racehorse. I'm lucky to have one as good as that and to have him back from stud. I'd say it's my proudest moment," Charlton told Sky Sports. "As long as he's enjoying himself he'll keep going and one day I'm sure he'll go back to stud." He added, "He'll probably go next for either the Hardwicke or the Prince of Wales's (at Royal Ascot) and as he's won a Group One here, he'll probably go for the Prince of Wales's Stakes." Al Kazeem took his record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes, Tattersalls Gold Cup & Gr1 Eclipse Stakes) and 8 placings (including the Gr1 Prix Ganay & Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes) from 23 starts for £1,568,220 earnings.
