Tough Task For Sancerre In Brisbane Return

Friday, 22nd May 2015

Talented filly Sancerre makes her return to Brisbane in tomorrow's Gr3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben, but Cambridge trainer Tony Pike is under no illusions about the task confronting her. Sancerre won at the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich last winter to secure a spot in the Gr1 Queensland Oaks, in which she was outclassed, and she returns to Brisbane for the Doomben fillies' and mares' feature on the back of a strong Rating 85 win at Te Rapa last start. "She won very well last start. She was dominant that day and she ran good time," Pike said. "But she is going to have to take a huge step up in class on Saturday. If she could get some black-type, it would be great for her owners, Trelawney Stud." Beautifully-bred Sancerre, who is by O'Reilly out of Gr1 Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray (Zabeel), will be ridden by Zac Purton and will start from barrier one.
