Brisbane Cup Target For Landlocked

Thursday, 21st May 2015

Landlocked has had his winter carnival campaign revised after discussions between his trainer Joe Cleary, owner Gerry Harvey and Harvey's racing manager Clare Bird decided upon the Gr2 Brisbane Cup at Doomben on 6 June as his next target, reports AAP. The former Anthony Cummings-trained 8YO has proven to be a revelation since Harvey decided to bring him out of retirement, winning seven races including the Wagga, Queanbeyan and Gundagai Cups. His winning streak continued last weekend when scoring an impressive 1800m victory at the Sunshine Coast. "He is just racing too well," Cleary said. "He came through the Caloundra race great and really deserves a shot at the Brisbane Cup." By Zabeel out of the Danehill mare Secover, Landlocked is a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Denise's Joy. This is one of the most sought after families in the stud book and includes the likes of More Joyous, Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy, Thorn Park, Light Up The World and this season's Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Fenway.
