Overseas Trip Unlikely For Dan Excel

Wednesday, 20th May 2015

Meanwhile, trainer John Moore was non-committal when asked whether Designs On Rome's stable-mate Dan Excel (Shamardal-Love Excelling, by Polish Precedent) would travel to England this summer or to Australia later in the year, although owner David Boehm said both options were unlikely, reports the South China Morning Post. The Irish-bred Dan Excel returned to the winner's circle when executing a successful defence of his Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup title at Kranji racecourse on Sunday, leaving the door open for a potential overseas campaign. "That would make it a very hard campaign, to go to England or Australia, then to come back here, it wouldn't be ideal, but we will make a decision in the next few weeks," Boehm said. "I haven't spoken to John yet, but I suspect we are going to keep it local. Dan Excel is a rising eight-year-old and it is a lot to ask to undertake those big trips and expect everything to go right." He added, "Racing Victoria has been in touch, but we found out how hard it is to prepare for Melbourne - Sha Tin is closed at a critical time - and England is a long way away as well. [But] I never say never and anything is possible."
