New Home Required For Stallion Prospect
Wexford Stables are on the lookout for a home for stud prospect Pure Champion (Footstepsinthesand-Castara Beach, by Danehill), reports NZ Racing Desk. The Gr1 winner suffered a career-ending injury earlier this year after endearing himself to Matamata trainers Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott with his competitive nature. "For him to come back and be so genuine was very rewarding," Scott said. "Unfortunately, he pulled a ligament down his pastern and we're still looking for a good home for him." Scott added, "He did a wonderful job for the stable and he deserves a chance at stud." Racing as Steinbeck when commencing his career in his native Ireland, Pure Champion proved to be well above average winning at Gr3 level and boasting form around the likes of multiple Gr1 winner Canford Cliffs. He subsequently continued his career in Hong Kong where he was a multiple Gr3 winner and runner-up in the Gr1 Hong Kong Cup. The handsome son of Footstepsinthesand finished third in last year's Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes in his New Zealand debut before landing the Gr1 Windsor Park Plate. He also won the Gr3 Manawatu Challenge Stakes in December. Pure Champion is out of the Danehill mare Castara Beach and hails from the family of Gr1 Adelaide Cup winner Water Boatman and Gr2-winning stallion Sea Anchor, sire of Cox Plate and Victoria Derby winner Red Anchor.
