El Roca To Bypass 10,000

Wednesday, 20th May 2015

The odds are against El Roca (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) making an appearance in Saturday's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are more likely to bypass the 1350m feature in favour of the Gr2 QTC Cup (1200m) seven days later. El Roca was unplaced when resuming on 9 May in the Gr1 BTC Cup, in which he drew wide and was forced to cover extra ground before weakening to finish 11th behind Hot Snitzel. That was El Roca's first appearance in 13 months after being sidelined with an injured suspensory ligament. "He's back on track and the smarter thing to do with him is to wait and go to the 1200 metre race," Busuttin said. "If he runs well then we can back him up in the Stradbroke." Despite his disappointing first-up performance, El Roca has pleased the stable with the progress he has made since. "He galloped really well this (Tuesday) morning and Natalie rode him and she was very happy," Busuttin said. "He's scoped all clear and the horse has improved a lot."
