Boban Well Ahead Of 10,000 Return

Wednesday, 20th May 2015

In other Doomben 10,000 news, former top-class miler Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare) will attempt to get his career back on track when he resumes in the $750,000 Gr1 sprint on Saturday. The Chris Waller-trained Boban has been unplaced in nine starts since landing the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes in March last year, however a recent barrier trial win at Warwick Farm has connections hopeful that the 5YO is not far away from his best. "We backed off in the autumn to set him specifically for the Ten Thousand and possibly the Stradbroke," said Waller's stable foreman Liam Prior. "His trial win was probably better than it looked and Glyn [regular rider Glyn Schofield] is very happy with him. If he gets close to his best form, he will be hard to beat." Boban, who has won 9 of his 30 starts for over $1.6 million prize money, will be having his first start since failing miserably in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes on 28 February this year.
