The ABC Of BreedMATE

Tuesday, 19th May 2015

Breeders have already pledged over $2 million they'd like to spend on 2015 stallion nominations for their mares listed in BreedMATE, however not everyone is sure about how easy it is to take part. So here, in a nutshell, is how BreedMATE actually works:

  • A: As a breeder you register, which takes less than a minute, and then add any mares you own, noting the preferred maximum amount that you'd like to spend on each mare's 2015 stallion fee. That amount is a guideline, not a commitment. And then?
  • B: It's your call. You can either sit back and let stud farms (who can view all participating mares and their owners' preferred max nom spend) approach you with an offer specific to each mare. Alternatively, you can search through the list of all stallions on BreedMATE (which are linked to their web pages) by stud farm, State, sireline and fee. If you find one you like, submit an offer at a fee you're comfortable with, and wait for a response. Remember: it's an expression of interest, not a commitment, until you sign a contract with the stud farm later on.
  • C: It's as simple as that, and it adds an X factor of never knowing what offer you might wake up to. Making or receiving offers costs nothing and it's confidential. Why not try something different in 2015? Register by clicking on the link in this item, on the 2015 BreedMATE tab in the menu bar above, or on the banner below.
