Straight Girl Wins Gr1 Victoria Mile

Tuesday, 19th May 2015

At Tokyo Racecourse in Japan, 6YO mare Straight Girl (Fuji Kiseki-Never Period, by Taiki Shuttle) claimed her maiden Gr1 success when unleashing a powerful finish to score by a head for trainer Hideaki Fujiwara in the Gr1 Victoria Mile (8 furlongs) for 4YO+ f&m, over fellow 6YO mare Keiai Elegant (King Kamehameha-Post Parade, by AP Indy) & 5YO mare Minaret (Suzuka Mambo-Noisette, by Warning). "The frontrunners were holding off well in the straight but the mare showed a magnificent turn of foot. I rode her for the first time today but she was easy to ride and ran a strong race," commented winning jockey Keita Tosaki. Straight Girl, who finished third in last year's Victoria Mile, took her record to 9 wins from 26 starts for ¥ 366,545,900 earnings.
