Stradbroke Next For Bart

Tuesday, 19th May 2015

Meanwhile, fellow top WA sprinter Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars-Sister Theresa, by At Talaq) will chase winter carnival riches in Queensland after passing his first test at Gr1 level on the weekend, reports The West Australian. The 4YO proved he belongs in the top echelon of speedsters when charging home from near last on the turn to finish fourth behind Flamberge in The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Trainer Vaughn Sigley was understandably thrilled with the performance, and immediately announced plans to take the son of Blackfriars to Brisbane for the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) on 6 June. "That run proves he's well and truly up to them," Sigley said. "He wasn't going to be able to win from there, but it was just the way it panned out. The horse next to him, Smokin' Joey, lunged at the barriers a few times before the start and he didn't time the jump very well." He added, "It was a big run. He pulled up good and we're going to go to Queensland now." The well-related Black Heart Bart is out of a half-sister to New Zealand Oaks winner Savannah Success, dam of Cox Plate winner and outstanding young stallion Savabeel.
