Aerovelocity Eligible For Huge Sprint Bonuses
Meanwhile, Racing Victoria's international recruitment officer Leigh Jordan says star Hong Kong sprinter Aerovelocity would be eligible for some huge bonuses if he were to run in the $1 million Gr1 Darley Classic at Flemington in November. The bonuses are associated with the Global Sprint Challenge of which the New Zealand-bred son of Pins has now won two legs. His victory in the KrisFlyer International Sprint at Kranji in Singapore on Sunday night was his second win in a leg of the series following his victory in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen in Japan in March. Aerovelocity now needs to win one of either the Darley Classic or Hong Kong International Sprint – which he won last year – to win the $1 million Global Sprint Challenge bonus and while the latter will be a priority in the second half of the year, the Darley Classic has extra appeal. The Victoria Racing Club is offering a $600,000 bonus to any horse that can win a GSC leg outside Australia and then claim the Darley Classic. "If he came he would run for the $1 million Global Sprint Challenge bonus, plus the VRC have a bonus where if a horse wins a Global Sprint Challenge leg and then wins the Darley Classic they collect $600,000," Jordan said. "Therefore, with prize money for first and the VRC bonus it would be $1.2 million, plus the Global Sprint Challenge bonus of $1 million, which is $2.2 million. That's a pretty big incentive."
