Night Of Thunder Wins Gr1 Lockinge Stakes

Monday, 18th May 2015

At Newbury in the UK, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated a Gr1 success when top-class 4YO entire Night Of Thunder (Dubawi-Forest Storm, by Galileo) scored by a neck for trainer Richard Hannon in the Gr1 Lockinge Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 4YO entire and stable-mate Toormore (Arakan-Danetime Out, by Danetime) & 4YO entire Arod (Teofilo-My Personal Space, by Rahy). Having his first start for new owner Sheikh Mohammed, Night Of Thunder took his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 2,000 Guineas & Listed Doncaster Stakes) and 4 placings (the Gr1 Coral Eclipse Stakes, Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes, Gr1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp & Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes) from 9 starts for £846,994 earnings. Winning trainer Richard Hannon said that both Night Of Thunder and stable-mate Toormore were likely to progress to the Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot on 16 June, where they will clash with Hong Kong superstar Able Friend. "Night Of Thunder looked to me like he was going to win very well and probably just got a little tired after his long spell off the track but we couldn't be more pleased with both horses," Hanno told Racing Post. "I think both horses will improve. Definitely Toormore will. He's been a little bit heavy all this year. They will probably both go to Ascot and go well in the Queen Anne."
