Inside Preakness Draw For American Pharoah
American Pharoah has drawn the inside gate and will start the dominant 4-5 favourite in a field of eight in Saturday's US$1.5 million Gr1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course, reports bloodhorse.com. The Bob Baffert-trained Kentucky Derby winner will once again line up against Firing Line and stable-mate Dortmund, who finished second and third respectively at Churchill Downs. Firing Line drew barrier 8 and is currently rated a 4-1 chance, while Dortmund will jump from barrier 2 and is currently 7-2. Speaking after the draw, Bob Baffert said: "I can't believe I drew the 1-2 (posts) again," Baffert said. "I don't love it. I never like the one-hole because sometimes they don't break well. But it's the luck of the draw. If (American Pharoah) is the best horse, we'll find out." Simon Callaghan, who prepares Firing Line, said barrier 8 gives his colt options. "It is perfect," Callaghan said. "We are really looking forward to the rematch with American Pharoah. (Firing Line) has never run on a wet track before, but he has run well on many different tracks." The weather forecast for Baltimore on Saturday is for a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.
