British Breeder Fund To Boost Purses
The growing importance of incentive schemes to the global thoroughbred landscape has been underlined this week. According to bloodstock.racingpost.com, “The British European Breeders' Fund (BEBF) will contribute a record £1.3 million in prizemoney this season, with more than 600 races receiving funding throughout the year.” Recipient of a significant portion of the pool is juvenile racing, particularly Maiden events, "with 80 per cent of juvenile maidens receiving support including the country's most valuable, the British Stallion Stud EBF Convivial Maiden at York, now worth £50,000.” There is particular focus on Filly only races: five valuable filly nurseries will receive support, among them he £60,000 EBF Fillies' Nursery during Future Champions weekend. BEBF chairman Philip Freedman commented following the announcement of BEBF prizemoney allocations: "The types of race we support are selected to provide a stepping stone for horses' careers and some of the races need protecting. The aim is to provide tangible support to the right type of races for the breed."
