Boss Shooting For First SA Gr1 Win
Glen Boss will be looking to rectify an anomaly on his outstanding riding record when he partners Lucky Hussler in Saturday's Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville, reports racing.com. The champion jockey may be one of Australia's most successful big race riders having won 81 Gr1 races in his distinguished career, but remarkably he is yet win a Gr1 race in Adelaide, something the 45YO is hoping to address on Saturday. "I actually don't imagine I've had too many Gr1 rides there," Boss said. "I would have ridden in a couple of Adelaide Cups (when it was a Gr1) and a few Derbys, but it's a blank canvas for me over there at the moment." Boss claimed his 80th Gr1 win when guiding Lucky Hussler to victory in the Gr1 William Reid Stakes in March, and he is confident the Darren Weir-trained 5YO is primed for another feature sprint success. "He's a good, genuine six or seven-furlong horse, they're his two pet distances, so the drop back to 1200 metres shouldn't be a problem," Boss said. Lucky Hussler has drawn wide in barrier 11 in the field of 17, but Boss views the outside gate as an advantage. "I've been watching the races over there pretty closely the last couple of weeks and they are definitely getting off the track and swooping," he said. "There hasn't been too many horses lead up or win on the fence. So given they've all been coming down the middle of the track, I'd say it'll be a good draw for him."
