Mongolian Khan Spelling Well

Thursday, 14th May 2015

Trainer Murray Baker has provided an update on dual Classic winner Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor-Centafit, by Centaine) who is currently spelling in New Zealand ahead of a preparation aimed at the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in the spring. Speaking on Sky's Racing HQ, Baker said the New Zealand and Australian Derby winner was in excellent condition as he takes time out to recuperate after a highly successful autumn campaign. "He's enjoying a good spell," Baker said. "When I looked at him the other day he was in excellent order. He hadn't put on too much condition. It's just the way he's made I think. But with colts you don't want them getting too heavy." Although he is yet to make any firm plans regarding the spring, Baker said the son of Holy Roman Emperor will launch his Cups campaign in Melbourne. "We'll get him going here [New Zealand] first and then almost certainly he'll kick off in Melbourne in one of those weight-for-age races...probably over 1600m," he said.
